Terrasse des Grands Dignitaires
(The Great Dignitaries’ Terraces)

The terraces originally surmounted part of the New Palace buildings, the Great Promenade Gallery, and the Great Dignitaries’ wing, where you are now standing.

As a chronicler of the day remarked:

« Although in this part of the palace all edifices are majestic and admirable in aspect, three areas, however, surpass all the others : the Audience Hall, the Great Chapel and the upper terraces. All three are so remarkably structured that no palace in the world has anything to equal them ... »

The terrace affords a magnificent view of Avignon and the region, Villeneuve-les-Avignon and the Rhône.

	La terrasse des grands Dignitaires abrite également la Buvette du Palais des Papes Boissons fraîches, boissons chaudes, assiettes froides, assortiments de produits régionaux, sandwiches, ou patisseries, préparés par notre service traiteur, sont servis durant toute la saison touristique.
