A choreography by Carolyn Carlson assisted by Sara Orselli
August 1 and 2, 2025
Two exceptional performances in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes in Avignon. Performed by the star dancer Hugo Marchand and the dancer Caroline Osmont of the Paris Opera, accompanied by Juha Marsalo by the Carolyn Carlson Company. With music by René Aubry and Philip Glass. World premiere in collaboration with the city of Avignon, Avignon Tourisme, and the Avignon Festival.
This choreography was built around the works of Jean Michel Othoniel specially installed on the stage of the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes in Avignon. A monumental installation imagined by the sculptor for this extraordinary venue. More than 10 bricks of glass transforming the architecture of the Cour d'Honneur create a landscape that welcomes three immense sculptures of mirrored stainless steel bricks with ghostly shapes.
Spectators will benefit from a reduced price ticket valid until January 2026, giving access to the artist's exhibition in the Palace. After the two performances of Midnight Souls, the installation on stage of the "ghosts of love" will remain visible throughout August and much of September 2025.
This event is made possible thanks to the city of Avignon, which gave Jean-Michel Othoniel carte blanche to take over this historically rich stage. The artist then decided to work with Carolyn Carlson, Hugo Marchand, and Caroline Osmont to create a completely new show. It reflects their shared desire to bring together different art forms and offer the public a unique sensory and emotional experience, offering a unique symbiosis of dance and sculpture over the two evenings.
