Schedules and prices
The Palais des Papes is open every day, all year round. The last admission to the ticket offices is 1 hour before the monument closes and 30 minutes for the visit to the pontifical gardens. Online reservation is recommended.
The monument is freely accessible every Sunday and the gardens every day for residents of Avignon (proof required).
Getting to the Palace
- By foot: the monument is accessible in a maximum of 20 minutes, no matter where you are within the walls.
- By bike : The monument – located on the ViaRhôna route – has obtained the Accueil Vélo brand. Cycling visitors, who benefit from numerous specific and free services during their stay, are welcome!

Different ways to visit the monument
Several options are available to you for visiting the monument.
Individual visits:
Salone, as a couple or as a family, the classic route is done using a digital tablet, theHistopad, offered free of charge included in the admission price and available in 7 languages (FR, GB, D, JP, SP, CH, IT). Thanks to augmented reality you will be able to visualize a large part of the rooms of the Palais des Papes as they might have been in the XNUMXth century.

The gardens of the Papal Palace:
The gardens of the Popes’ Palace are accessible through the Maria Casarès courtyard and can be visited independently of the monument. They are free every day for Avignon residents (upon presentation of proof of address)
Note : The gardens of the Palais des Papes close to visitors 30 minutes before the monument closes. Your Histopad does not contain information on this part of the route.

Animals in the monument
Domestic animals, even if kept on a leash or carried in bags, are prohibited in themonument enclosure with the exception of guide or assistance dogs.
Photos at the Palais des Papes
Photos are allowed in all rooms of the Palace except in the painted rooms in order to preserve them: Pope's Room, Deer's Room, Saint Jean Chapel.
