Due to a large number of steps, the route to visit the Palais des Papes is partially inaccessible to people in wheelchairs. However, we are happy to support you in your personalized visit project. All our teams are mobilized to offer you a “tailor-made” experience in the heart of the largest Gothic palace.
Your route will take you through the main spaces of the monument and will allow you to discover the history of the popes, equipped with your Histopad. This touchscreen tablet provides a fun and interactive experience. Thanks to augmented reality you will be able to visualize all the rooms of the monument (accessible and not accessible during your visit) as they might have been in the 14th century

Discover on your route part of the Great Exhibition of the Palais des Papes, dedicated this year to Miss.Tic, one of the greatest stencil artists, who died in 2022, who dotted the walls of cities with her graffiti and poetic aphorisms.

Your experience
Starting from the latrine tower, located at the rear of the monument (Maria Casarés courtyard*), you access the first level by elevator to the spaces made up of the Consistory room (where the St. John chapel is also located), the Jesus Room and the Bedroom Antique from Camérier.
You will take the gallery of the Benedict XII Cloister and will be able to access, up to the main courtyard, a walkable and furnished space.
At the second level, you then access the pope's ceremonial spaces, made up of the Haute Cuisine, with its monumental fireplace of more than 20 meters and the sumptuous Grand Tinel room. Enjoy exclusive access to the Chapelle St Martial, one of the treasures of the monument with its 14th century painted decorations.
At the end of your visit, stop in the gardens of the Palais des Papes, accessible on the same level (with accompanying person), from where you can benefit from information on the monument using your histopad tablet, enjoy a pleasant moment among Mediterranean species , and you sit in a comfortable and shaded space.

➮ The course is accessible by reservation only, up to 24 hours before the slot, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 14 p.m. to 16 p.m.

The Saint-Bénezet Bridge, the first site in the Middle Ages accessible in total autonomy, is labeled Tourism and Disability for motor, hearing and mental disabilities.
The monument has multimedia mediation tools as well as museographic supports designed to meet the needs of everyone, including people with disabilities.
- A multimedia audio guide in 14 languages with blind waypoint button.
- A video synchronized with the audio guide in 11 languages and subtitled in English and French which already offers hearing impaired people the possibility of reading the comments.
- Didactic text panels and cartels translated into 2 major languages (English, Italian) presented in lettering large enough for visually impaired people, as well as certain pieces and museographic collections with very good visual accessibility due to their format.
- A multimedia digital tablet (French/English) which allows people with reduced mobility to have access, thanks to this on-board device, to all the information and educational and historical content, including the reconstruction of the bridge in 3D at different times from non-accessible points of view (videos, comments, music, etc.).
- Finally, specific training was provided to guides to understand the different audiences with disabilities.
